GroovyMusic Lets Kids Create & Play Your Own Music
Now tweens have their very own cross between iTunes and American Idol. You know we’re not huge fans of the rock star idolization here at GirlMogul, but we do like the idea behind www.groovymusic.com – a new online site that lets kids 7-12 share music they have created. It’s a safe, free, kid-friendly website where kids can share the music they have created with the Groovy Music software. Kids can create music any which way (though there is a Groovy Music brand of software) and upload it on the site and have others listen to it, download it and rate it (yes, there is a groovy music billboard.) Probably the easiest way to use the site is to buy the Groovy Music Software from Sibelius Softwate. There are 3 age ranges (from 5 to 9 & up) and it promises to teach the basics of sound, rhythm, pitch and composition using pictures and animation – progressing to the study of simple notation as well as major and minor scales. They can even create songs to go along with the music.
The software is marketed mainly to teachers for use in the classroom, so if you’re school is using Groovy Music, you’ll probably hear more about the site. Groovy Music software retaisl for around $69, so depending on how into music you are, you might buy it for the home. You can read more about the software here and learn more about the free music sharing site, www.groovymusic.com here
Students love Groovy Music. It guides them with a simple voiceover and lets them create their own music as well as carry out directed activities, so there’s plenty of room for creativity. In fact, Groovy Music is so compelling that once students start making music; they just won’t want to stop! And best of all, it’s incredibly easy for both teachers and students.
