Starting Your Facebook Profile!

OK, Moms, here’s part 3 of your Facebook tutorial – how to master the social networking behemoth and regain your cool. Enjoy!
You’ve signed up, dealt with your notifications, and fixed your settings. Now it’s time to get that profile ready for the world!
Unfortunately, there is one tiny housekeeping chore to do before you start. Click on our favorite “Settings” tab again from the Home screen (this is short I promise!). Go to the second tab which is called “Networks”. If you belong to a company, school, or even area of the world, you can search it and join the network. For instance, if I live in New York City, I can search New York City. I can also search Jersey Show, NJ. Networks are important to your profile because you can connect to people you know through them.
Now, unto the Facebook Profile! Click on the “Profile” tab in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. The first thing you need is a Profile Picture! The empty head in the left corner of your profile has a link underneath, which says “Upload Picture”. Click on it. Then, click the “Browse” button. Go to the folder from the menu on the left where you keep your pictures in your computer, and select a picture which you would like to represent you. Don’t worry about cropping the photo or adjusting anything, you can do that later! After you select the picture, there will be a box that says “Uploading Picture”. Just be patient and wait till it’s done. You will get another box that says “Write Something” at the top. You can write something you want to appear on your friends’ News feeds, like “This is when I went fishing with…” or you don’t have to write anything at all. Regardless, look at the bottom right of the box and press “Publish”. Click “Okay” to the next dialog box. You have a profile picture!
Now, I want to go over a few tricks and details with Profile Pictures before moving on to something else. When you are back to your Profile (the button is always at the top left), simply put your cursor over your Profile Picture. See the white box that’s says “Change Picture” at the top? If you click on it, you can do some cool stuff, like editing your thumbnail (to be centered around you), or your change your picture.
If you want to crop your profile picture, double click on it. Click on the picture again. When it is large and the only thing on your screen, scroll down. On the bottom with you will see a few options. Click on “Crop This Photo” and drag the points to where you want your photo. When you’re finished, click on “Done Cropping” at the top and Voila! You’re Done!
Here’s a short recap, and remember, leave your comments and questions for me!
1. Click to the Settings tab and go to Networks.
2. Add your networks, which include cities, states, companies, and schools.
3. Then, click on your Profile at the top left corner.
4. Upload a Picture using the link underneath the blank head.
5. Edit your photo by fixing the thumbnail or cropping it, done by the descriptions above. Enjoy!
