My daughter is only 6 right now, but we do most of our serious talking while she is getting ready for/tucked into bed. It's pretty easy so far, but I know it's going to get way more complicated! I'm not always sure exactly what to say, so this book would help!

I often feel that I dont know where to start!
If I try - she is not at all interested and says "Can we talk later" - ugh!
Thanks - I hope we win- I could use the help.

Alot of times we are in the car talking about things that happened at school. This serves as a great time to talk about life situations. All of their focus is on you and I think they feel comfortable because, since they are in the back,I'm not looking directly at them and they open up a little more.

My daughter and I have a very difficult time talking. It seems that the few times that it has gone smoothly we are either on a girls day trip, or laying across my bed, late at night, while everyone else is asleep.

You can't wait to have "a talk". I have an almost 12 year old stepdaughter. We don't have the best relationship in the world, but she will ask me things she won't ask her aunts because she said " I know you won't lie to me". You can gauge how much information is enough. Keep things simple, use proper terminology, and be honest. There has to be ongoing dialogue, not a speech or lecture.
